「私たちの灯り」のページでは、チームメンバー(社員)の心の灯り(ワコムで働く思い)がつないでいくコミュニティーの方々の心の灯りを、作品を通して紹介しています。

今回紹介する作品は、Yvonne Wanの『Focus: The Autistic Superhero Loves Comic Art!』(Focus:自閉症のスーパーヒーローはコミックアートが大好き!)です。コミッククリエイターのYvonneは、自閉症のスーパーヒーローを主人公にしたコミックの作者として知られ、自閉症や特別な支援を必要とする子どもたちを対象に無償のアートキャンプを行っています。クリエイティブ業界のプロたちがワコム製品を使っていることを知ったYvonneは、生徒たちがプロを目指すことができるよう、デジタルツールを使った体験を提供したいと考えました。Eメールマーケティング・インフルエンサープログラムマネージャーを務めるPamela Parkへの問い合わせをきっかけに、Focus Comicとワコムとのつながりが生まれ、今回のコラボレーションが実現しました。

ワコムのSocial Initiativesでは、チームメンバーの心の灯りを大切にしています。一つ一つの心の灯りがワコムの新たな原動力や挑戦へとつながっています。

タイトル:Focus: The Autistic Superhero Loves Comic Art!

作品について: 中央に描いたキャラクター・Focusは、世界初となる自閉症のスーパーヒーローの一人。自閉症者はメディアで表現されることが少なく、そのスーパーヒーローを描くことは、ニューロダイバーシティ(神経多様性)やインクルージョンを促進するために重要だと考えています。同時にコミックには、自閉症に対する社会の受け止め方を変え、自閉症者の自らの受け止め方にも影響を与えるような、メディアとしての強い力があります。自閉症は強みとなりえます。

作品の中でFocusは、ワコムのペンタブレットを使いながら、静寂の中にいます。私がFocus Comicで行っている無償のアートキャンプに参加する生徒たちは、デジタルアートを学ぶことが大好きです。物語に力強さを持たせる上でも、デジタルアートについて学ぶことは重要な役割を果たしています。

アーティストについて:Yvonne Wanは社会文化人類学者(Social Cultural Anthropologist)の学位を持ち、受賞歴のあるコミッククリエイター、ライター、アーティスト。『Focus Comic』の作者。『Focus Comic』 には、世界初の自閉症スーパーヒーローが登場し、可能性に満ちた才能が描かれている。Focus Comicの使命は、自閉症にまつわる差別や偏見を取り除き、自閉症者が楽しみを見出し、尊厳を保てるよう支援すること。Yvonneは、自閉症や特別な支援を必要とする子どもたちを対象としたアートキャンプを無償で開催しており、子どもたちが「できないこと」ではなく「できること」に集中できるようサポートしている。また、無料の児童発達支援サービスや特別なリソースの提供を通じて、自閉症児や特別な支援を必要とする子どもたちを抱えることで生じる制度的不平等がなくなるよう取り組んでいる。年間100人以上の子どもたちを支援し、地域の自閉症者の生活を豊かにすることに情熱を注ぐ。

ワコムとFocus Comicについて: Focus Comicは、Yvonne Wanが設立したアメリカ・アリゾナ州で活動するコミックブック社で、自閉症や特別な支援を必要とする子どもたちを対象とした無償のアートプログラムを行っています。ワコムは、生徒たちがデジタルツールを使って絵を描く方法を学べるよう、2年間のClip Studioのライセンスが付属されたWacom OneとWacom Intuosを提供しました。

Focus Comicの活動は、自閉症にまつわる差別や偏見を取り除き、時に厳しい社会の中で、彼らが尊厳を保つことができるよう支援することを目的としています。また、コミック業界でのインターンシップや出版といった、機会の可能性を広げる取り組みとなっています。自閉症のアーティストの情熱と才能が認められ、支援することで、自閉症の人々に希望を与えたいというYvonneの献身的な活動をワコムは応援しています。
