Wacom’s conference on VR plans certain to be a big draw Company to host Wacom Creators’ Conference and demonstrate developments in the virtual reality space

Tokyo, Japan and Portland, Ore. – Aug. 8, 2018 – With SIGGRAPH 2018 as its backdrop, Wacom is inviting game developers, industrial designers, animators, as well as members of the editorial community to join the Wacom Creators’ Conference, an evening presentation and forum during the week of SIGGRAPH that will spotlight Wacom’s latest concept in the areas of Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR). The conference will take place on Tuesday, August 14th from 4PM to 7PM at the Star Sapphire ballroom in the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel, right across the street from the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building. An invitation to the conference can be accessed here. Seats are limited.

The conference kicks off with a short welcome introduction by Wacom CEO, Nobu Ide, followed by presentations and demonstrations by representatives from Wacom and Gravity Sketch, developers of the leading VR and 3D design software, who are working closely with Wacom on input solutions for VR content creation. Conference attendees will then be treated to a live demonstration of the Wacom-Gravity Sketch proof of concept product featuring the talented Jama Jurabaev, Senior Concept Artist at Lucasfilm, to show how VR will enhance the design workflow. Following Jama’s presentation, conference goers will be able to try the proof of concept and provide feedback.

Driven by the automotive, movie and gaming industries, the discussion about how to best integrate VR/MR into an improved design workflow is in full swing. “Being a technology leader in the field of instruments for professional design, we are positioning the company to be a leader in VR for artists and designers,” says Nobu Ide, CEO of Wacom.

With Gravity Sketch, Wacom has found the right partner to together take the lead in prototype development for the next evolution in 3D design. “The main purpose of the conference is to learn,” says Hiroshi Tamano, Wacom’s Senior Vice President of Partnership Development 3D/VR. “We need to collect as much feedback as possible from our potential users so that the final product meets the needs of the ever-changing design landscape.”
